Last year our church youth group had a wonderful weekend retreat at your abbey. I read the summaries of others' experiences at the Abbey, and am sorry to report that I had a decidedly different sort of encounter at the gift shop at 4:50 pm yesterday (Sunday 4/22.) My husband and I were out for a drive, and we came a considerable distance to stop there on our way home. We were happy to read that he shop sign stated it was open until 5 pm on Sundays. There was a \closed\ sign on the door. The door was unlocked. I looked inside and noticed a priest sitting at a table stroking a cat. I cracked open the door, and asked if the shop was still open. He was obviously very irritated that another resident cat had scooted into the shop when I opened the door. He said the shop was closed, at which point I withdrew. We drove back home (well over an hour) with an unpleasant memory and with no inclination to return. All I'd wanted to do was spend a few minutes purchasing some jam and honey. Instead, the trip was a real disappointment. I certainly hope that our welcome is not a typical one for visitors.

I am a professed OFS at the Shrine of St. Anthony and I must say the pictures are beautiful. I am glad you enjoyed your stay at the friary; your pictures made me realize how much I take the beauty of our gathering place for granted.

Your Franciscan brother in Christ,

Update: Raymond Arroyo has found a new TV studio in Washington, D.C. He will begin broadcasting soon at the end of January 2012 for his "The World Over" show on EWTN, but unfortunately is unable to accommodate a live audience. I am very happy that Raymond was able to find a studio to continue the important work and ministry of his informative show.
